artist statement

I am a visual artist living in the US, Washington DC area since 11 years.
Germany is my home country, where I grew up and studied the topics that are characteristic for my interests and skills: Theoretical physics and art. Combining a degree in physics with studies in free art, I was looking for a field where I could apply my analytic skills with my longing for artistic expression. I started a career in the creative field of graphic and web design while privately pursuing drawing and painting. Prior to my time in the Washington DC area I lived in Hamburg (Germany) as a graphic and web designer, working as a free artist in corporate environments.

Having lived in many different regions of Europe and Israel I experienced my move to the US as another opportunity to adapt to a new environment and incorporate new influences into my work. Raising my kids consumed most of my time the last years, but keeping contact with local artists and working on paintings at home lead to the opportunity of showing my artwork to the public in 2007 for the first time.

My earlier work from 1995-2001 contains mostly drawings and illustrations with pencil, charcoal, ink and pastel, featuring still lifes and naturalistic studies with increasingly abstract elements.
Since 2001 I found my expression in abstract pastels focusing on color and composition.
My recent artwork (2006 - 2008) consists mostly of abstract acrylics, using the paint impasto on canvas or paper which were exhibited in my Solo Exhibition 'In Dialogue' in Arlington.

Within the last three years I've been experimenting with different media, combining acrylic painting with drawing on paper and aquaboard. I was participating in the group exhibition 'Back from Italy' at the Italian Embassy in November 2009. Since 2010 I am a member of the Studio Gallery at Dupont Circle, Washington D.C. and have participated in the 'New Member Show' in 2010. Since then I had the opportunity to show my work in 2011 in a duo show: 'a flow of different light and deep'. My newest body of work consists of prints on paper collages which are exhibited in my upcoming show 'surfacing dreams' in March 2012.

I am married and live with my husband and my three children in the Washington D.C. area.
